Madu River Boat Excursion

The Madu Ganga is one of Sri Lanka’s most photographically rewarding river environments. Dense mangrove canopies filter the light as the boat moves through mangrove tunnels that open onto waterways and islands where cinnamon is peeled and dried in the open air. Further on, the historic Kothduwa island temple sits tranquil and undisturbed by the activity of the river around it. The Madu Ganga moves at its own quiet pace — and the excursion is designed to move with it.

The excursion concludes with a visit to the Balapitiya Puppet Museum, where Sri Lanka’s tradition of hand-carved puppetry offers compelling subject matter for documentary and portrait photography.
